Halloween was fun as usual. We didn’t plan costumes this year, it was very last minute. Dawson chose to hand out candy and wear a digital mask. That is as much costume as he could muster. Owen pulled out an elf pajama costume and decided to be the curse of Halloween, a Christmas elf. Nathan decided at the last minute to be an old grandpa man. He went over and borrowed grandpa‘s cane And Grandpa‘s hat and Grandma‘s wig. He looked the part and acted the part. So much fun!
Owen also dressed up for school as "Leche." This was a creative costume for us!!
Kay was at FFA camp and Cooper had basketball and Jaxton was at Purdue. We were down to three trick-or-treating tonight.
Nate takes all the technicians to Chicago every fall for a Tech Retreat. It is a mixture of deep dive trainings, and crazy fun! They went to a Blackhawks game, played whirly ball, played ping-pong, entertained multiple vendors like Alarm.com and DSC and DMP and others. This year was extra special because both our boys got to go along. Cooper took off of school at Oak Farm and rode the train with the team. Jaxton took time off at Purdue and actually rode a train from Lafayette to Chicago to join the team there. It was a different experience having the boys there with Nate. They had a lot of fun together.
Owen has secured a job. His friend, Daisy May, has two pet rats and she has asked him to help take care of them while they go on vacation. They go on trips a lot over the weekend and over the summer. They pay him $10 a day to head over and clean out The cage, feed the rats and fix their litter boxes. Owen absolutely loves this job. He loves earning the money, and he has grown to love these cute little pets. He actually wants some of his own, but I don’t think that will happen. He will just have to work for Daisy May Indefinitely :-)
Here’s our carving pumpkins experience! It’s fun to see everybody’s creativity come to life. Kaylee is artistic, Dawson is creative. Even Grandma carved half her pumpkin and then decided to draw a face on. Owen wanted his to look like a chicken, nugget face, and he did just that. Fun night!
Suzy from Simplx and Certified Alarm has developed breast cancer in the last six months. Her treatment has been a whirlwind of surgeries and radiation that was all very unexpected. Every year we have done the cancer walk with the Making Strides for Breast Cancer organization in Fort Wayne. This year we actually had a real person we love to walk for. Our shirts blasted #TeamSuzy and we walked in her honor. She got to wear a survivor sash and was treated like a queen. We had a great turnout from Simplx staff, and Suzy‘s whole family came out as well. It was an amazing Experience for all.
Nate got invited to speak at the Black Business Card party. This is an event to support Black people in the world of business in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. It is a networking event where people from all businesses can network and learn from each other. Nate was on a panel on the stage to speak about his business and some of the challenges and hurdles he has overcome with his business. It was also an opportunity to meet young entrepreneurs who are just starting out or who are trying to make things work. Nate felt honored to be invited to speak and we were glad to support the cause.
Owen was a ghost pirate in a play called Silver‘s secret about pirates. He wasn’t thrilled with his role as a ghost pirate with no individual speaking lines, but he decided to stick it out and have fun with his friends. He ended up loving having the costume And painting his face white with black around his eyes. He enjoyed trying to look like a ghost and enjoyed the role of pirate. Of course he had the most fun with all of his friends; that made it all worth it!
