Grandma Hutchinson

Grandma Hutchinson came to be here for Kaylee's arrival. We were sure that she would come a week or 2 early since both boys were 5 and 9 days early. So about Christmas time, we almost didn't go down to Lafayette for our family get-to-gether in fear that I would go into labor and be 3 hours from my doctor. So Grandma arrived the day after Christmas, also worrying that she would miss baby's arrival. So Christmas came and went, Grandma arrived, New Year's came and went, and still no sign of baby!! But we were lucky to have about 2 full weeks of fun with Grandma. Grandma got to have a mini vacation with us and spend time with me and the boys before we put her to work when baby came! We had a lot of fun doing fun artsy crafts, going to the library, out to lunch, and the boys got to have one-on-one dates with Grandma to the movies and the mall. Then, when Kaylee came finally, she got straight to work. She was super helpful with the boys and Nate and I didn't even have to think or worry if the boys were ok. She just took care of them and they loved every minute. It was very nice to have extra hands so I could focus on my new baby girl, getting to know her, figuring out nursing again, and learning what she needed. Thank you mom for all your help. We all love and appreciate you so very much!

Beautiful Girl

Isn't she beautiful? She is beyond beautiful. And she lives up to her name. She brings such joy to our home and to our family. It's like the color pink is accented all over our house in blankets, headbands, socks, and burp cloths. I love the added joy it brings! Kaylee was sleeping on the bassinet part of the pack 'n play we have in our room next to our bed. Once in a while I would try putting her down in her crib to nap when she fell asleep. Well, she seemed to love her crib and would sleep better and longer in there in her room than downstairs in the bassinet. She loved her crib already! So then I put her down to sleep in her crib at night and she slept excellent. She always would sleep with her hands out to the sides like this picture and didn't even need to be swaddled. I remember trying every trick in the books to get Jaxton to sleep. He was swaddled super tight and slept to the sound of AM radio for white noise. But this little angel just likes to sleep all sprawled out. It is adorable. I'm glad she loves her cozy room!

My First Bath

This is Kaylee's first bath at home. She still has her cord on her belly button, so it is just a sponge bath, and you can easily tell she did not like being without clothes! I love how her little arms flare out like she's trying to find something or someone to grab onto and hug. Even though she looks and sounds miserable, her cuteness makes me smile! Cooper wanted to help with the bath, but he was soo worried about her "hurt" (the cord on her belly button). He kept reminding me not to touch it and to be careful with her tummy. Her crying bothered him some too. But he helped Grandma take some pictures, so that helped cheer him up.
She didn't like any of her sponge bath at all. However, she was quite fond of having a little shower over her head with warm water. She thought that felt kinda good!

What a sweet angel!
All clean, dry, warm & cozy!

I'm A Big Brother!

Cooper is so excited to be able to say "I'm a big brother!" Usually it is Jaxton who is only able to say that in our house. Cooper likes to do anything his brother does, so now Cooper can say it too! Cooper's sweet innocent grin shows it all. He adores his new sister. He thinks she is just incredible, and he loves to hold her. Whenever he sees other babies around at church or anyplace that are about Kaylee's age, he asks me why there is another "Kaylee Joy" over there? Its super cute. So I explain that there are lots of babies and they all have different names, but ours is Kaylee Joy. What a sweet boy!

Little Sister

The boys were waiting with Grandma when we got home. They were so excited! Jaxton truly was in love with his little sister right away. He was so gentle and sweet with her, it really made me smile. And Cooper was just as excited, but didn't seem too curious; he was just glad to have mom and dad home after 2 days of being away. He also was concerned about how the doctor got the baby out through my belly button... Needless to say, this baby girl has some pretty awesome brothers. She is quite lucky to have them!

Going Home

We are leaving the hospital. Kaylee finally gets to wear a cute newborn size outfit rather than hospital clothes :-). She is wearing a tiny white ballerina onesie complete with tiny ballerina shoes on her footsies. Already she is all girl! Over that she is wearing a super warm outfit with tiny bear ears over the hood. It is snowing outside, so this is very fitting. And she couldn't be any cuter!

She's all strapped in, ready to go home to her very own house and her very own adorable nursery. Her brothers are ready and waiting for her arrival!!
Nate's family friend, Nancy Hammond, was working the evening shift as a nurse up at Labor & Delivery. So she offered to get us all checked out and wheeled us downstairs to the exit. It was fun seeing here there during our stay! Goodbye Hospital!

Daddy & Daughter

Here is Daddy with his new special daughter. How strange all the pink feels! Kaylee is going to have her Daddy wrapped around her little finger in no time! There is definitely something special about having a little girl! Daddy is just so cozy, she loves to snuggle right up on his chest all bundled up and warm. She loves her daddy already!

Hospital Stay

DeKalb Hospital was amazing! The rooms were ginormous and the one we got even had a double bed! With the boys we would always cuddle up together on the tiny twin bed, but this time, we could cuddle up together on a king size cozy bed during our hospital stay. They also had a "Celebrations Meal" for us to celebrate the birth of our new baby. It was complete with sparkling cider and wine glasses, a fancy fruit tray, and slices of cheescake drizzled with yum! We got to pick items from the menu and they brought it to us like room service to enjoy together. It was pretty neat!
Kaylee is our pink bundle of joy. She reflects her name perfectly. Everything about her brings me joy! I love her! And I love having a newborn baby again. After having 2 boys, and then waiting 3 years, a brand new baby, a pink bundle that is, is absolutely joyous to me! She is beautiful!

Her little newborn cry is precious. It doesn't bother me like I remember it used to with the boys. Instead, I like to watch her cry for a few moments when she does. It is just absolutely adorable to see her little face all crunch up. She is beautiful even when she cries!

Big Brothers

Kaylee is so lucky to have 2 big brothers to look out for her. And they absolutely love her! They have been waiting and waiting for her to come out of my tummy, so they were pretty excited when she finally did! Jaxton especially fell in love with her immediately. Cooper thought it was pretty neat too. It was precious to see them be so gentle and soft with their new sister.

Whose Who?

Can you guess who is who? They all resemble each other!

The top one is Jaxton, the middle one is Cooper, and the bottom one is Kaylee. Cooper had a mass of black hair on his head that is hidden inside his hat. And his face was a bit rounder. But his features are the same. Jaxton weighed a pound more than both his siblings at birth, but he and Kaylee have the same hair and facial features. It is cool to see how all our kids sorta look the same!!

A Perfect Angel

Here is our little angel. She is perfect in every way! She has beautiful long fingers and toes, a bit of copper colored fuzzy hair similar to Jaxton's color, and crystal-like grey blue eyes. I think they may turn blue! How fun to have a little blue eyed girl! Her face and her expressions look just like Jaxton when Jax was a new born baby! It's almost like de-sa-voo! She is beautiful!
Here is her first little bath in the hospital. She didn't like being cold of course, but didn't mind the warm water running on her head.

Welcome Kaylee: Your Birth Story

Baby Kaylee Joy Routsong is here! She was born January 6, 2011 at 9:09am. She was 6 lbs 8 oz, and 19 inches long. She is absolutely beautiful! Here is her story:
On Tuesday Jan 4, I had a doctor's appointment and was dilated 1 cm. I was pretty discouraged. On Wednesday Jan 5, my Braxton Hicks contractions began to get stronger and a tiny bit painful. I actually had to stop moving till they passed. Throughout the day I had these, sporadically, random, and not consistent. As night came, they were becoming more and more consistent and we started to time them. About 10pm they were about 10 minutes apart. We called Stephanie, my midwife, to give her a heads up. We went to bed, but I couldn't sleep because the contractions were getting more and more painful. This is the first time that I have experienced labor on my own. The last 2 times, my water broke in the middle of the night without any painful contractions. So I went into the hospital both times without having any pain. So this was all very new! Finally, about 2:30 I told Nate that we may want to head in to the hospital. The contractions were about 4-5 minutes apart and we had a 20 minute drive to DeKalb Hospital ahead of us. We headed out and called Stephanie on our way.
Once we got to the hospital, I was still dilated to a one and a half! I couldn't believe all that pain had made no progress for me! Also, once we were there, my contractions slowed way down and were not as consistent aymore!! They were getting stronger and more painful, but were spread out like every 10 minutes or so. The nurse thought we would get sent home. So discouraging!!! So we walked the halls and I even hopped up and down and ran in the hallways hoping to induce contractions. By 6:30 or so, Stephanie ordered a pill for me, cytotec, a pill to ripen the cervix and induce contractions, similar to pitocin. She decided NOT to send us home! Yay! What a relief! We would have our baby today! So I took the pill, a tiny 1/4 of a pill, and almost immediately it took effect. I began having contractions closer and closer together and they progressively got stronger and more and mroe painful. I was in full blown labor then. The contractions would not hardly finish when another would start, and my pain worked its way up to a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10! I have never ever felt pain like I did then. I thought my body would explode! I told Nate that I felt like I might die! It was terrible, terrible pain. I didn't feel that much pain with my boys because I think I had an epidural sooner. About 8:00 Stephanie consented to have the epidural done. The anesthesiologist was very skilled and did a great job. And that took effect about 8:30 or so. Stephanie and her student, Brittany, came in then and checked my cervix. I was a 7! I couldn't believe I had gone frome 1 to 7 in 2 hours on that pill! No wonder I was in so much pain! With the epidural, all I could feel now was pressure. What a relief!
Just 20 relaxing minutes or so later, I began to feel tons of pressure. They checked my cervix and I was 10 cm already!! Stephanie and Brittany gathered all their supplies around. They even invited Nate to catch her when she came out of me! So he got some gloves and was told where to stand and was nervous but excited to be a part of the experience! I pushed maybe 5 times and Baby Kaylee was out! Nate caught her and they all helped put her on my chest all naked and fresh from the womb! What a sweet moment. My baby was here. She did not cry when she came out. Instead, she looked around at her surroundings, content, and just took it all in. How sweet! With her little body against my warm skin she was just cozy as ever and happy to be in Mommy's arms. It was precious to see how peaceful she was. I held her for a good 10 minutes before they had Nate cut the cord. Stephanie was very kind to let her just be with us right after delivery. After her cord was cut, they helped get her swaddled and then Nate and I just held her and got to know her. They didn't whisk her away to clean her, weigh her, measure her, etc, etc, like they did with the boys. They just let us be a family the very moment she was born and for the next couple hours. It was heaven.
About 10 minutes or so after she was born, I tried nursing her. She was rooting already and latched on to me with absolutely no problem! It was amazing to me that she already knew how to eat, how to survive! What a miracle! It strengthened our testimonies that there no doubt is a God. Heavenly Father and the plan of salvation is so real! Kaylee is a little miracle that grew inside me, and when she came out, she already knew how to survive by sucking. That to me is miraculous!. Even though we have science to explain every bit of it, the birth of a newborn baby is a miracle!

Waiting for Baby...

Here are just some fun photos while we are just waiting around for baby to come! We thought she would come about Christmas time, since both boys were early. But no, Christmas has come and gone and she is not here yet!! With no sign of labor or anything!! I am more than ready to have her here. Waking up each morning brought more anxiety for me realizing I have another day to wait! But soon enough, she will be here and she will change our lives! I can't wait!
